Crates first came into the Hill family business in the 1990s, as part of a removals firm set up to help
offices store and move. They quickly became the go-to — easy to use, hard-wearing, and far kinder to
belongings than cardboard.
From document storage in the late nineties to founding The Crate Hire Company in 2003, the family has built
its reputation one move at a time.
Today the group is led by James and Brad Hill — bringing Pluscrates into the fold in 2023, and Crate Hire
UK in 2025, to create one of the largest crate suppliers in the country.

The Hill Family Removals Business
Crates enter the Hill family business as part of Hills Enfield — a removals firm helping businesses and offices to store and move premises. Crates prove far more practical than cardboard.
1997
House of Hill Established
Document storage becomes an increasingly demanded service as businesses seek to improve efficiency.House of Hill is founded to serve this growing need.
2003
The Crate Hire Company Founded
House of Hill is sold and The Crate Hire Company is established — offering industry-leading crate hire and document storage for businesses and domestic customers alike.
2023
Pluscrate Acquired
The intellectual property and moulds of Pluscrate are acquired, adding one of the UK's largest suppliers of plastic crates to the removals industry to the group.
2025
Crate Hire UK Acquired
The goodwill and assets of Crate Hire UK Ltd are acquired — making the group one of the largest suppliers of crates in the UK, serving customers nationwide both domestic and commercial.
